Intro to Pistol: Fundamentals & Safety
Course Description:
This one-day introductory course is designed for brand new shooters who want to build a solid foundation in safe pistol handling, operation, and marksmanship. Whether you’re seeking self-defense confidence, interested in recreational shooting, or just want to understand how pistols work, this course will take you from zero experience to confident, competent, and safe gun handling.
Students will learn firearm safety rules, pistol mechanics, loading/unloading procedures, the fundamentals of marksmanship, and how to develop safe habits on and off the range. This course focuses on modern semi-automatic pistols and uses a crawl-walk-run training approach to ensure comfort and confidence every step of the way.
By the end of this course, students will be able to:
- Understand and apply the four fundamental rules of firearms safety
- Identify the key components and functions of a semi-automatic pistol
- Load, unload, and clear a pistol safely and confidently
- Understand the basics of stance, grip, sight alignment, and trigger control
- Engage in slow, deliberate fire on target with consistent accuracy
- Establish Strong Foundation in the Fundamentals to help the shooter grow towards the next level of Pistol Shooting.
No prior experience is necessary.
Required Gear (Student-Supplied/ Safety Gear Rentals Available):
Essential:
- Semi-automatic pistol (9mm recommended
- 2–3 magazines
- 250 rounds ammunition MINIMUM
- Eye protection (ANSI-rated)
- Ear protection: i.e. Ear Foamies, Ear muffs etc.
- Rigid belt
- Close-toed shoes
- Weather-appropriate clothing (long pants recommended)
- Water and snacks
- Notebook and pen
Optional / Recommended:
- Hat with brim
- Sunscreen (if outdoor range)
- Cleaning kit (for post-course Q&A/demo if desired)
